Would my insurance policy cover tornado damage?

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Most homeowners’ insurance policies will cover much, but not all, of the damage associated with extreme weather.  But home insurance coverage varies depending on the insurer.  A property insurance policy will cover the loss or damage to a dwelling building and personal property caused by insured perils.  For the most part, weather-related insurable perils include water damage, lightning, electrical currents, windstorms and falling object.

But many losses are not covered by insurance due to weather-related damage, and these often include water damage caused by floodwater, repeated or continuous water seepage, sewer back up, damage to antennas and satellite dishes as a result of wind or hail, damage from freezing outside the home and damage caused by earthquakes.  Sewer back-up and earthquake coverage can be purchased separately to add protection.

To determine whether or not your policy covers these and other potential losses, refer to your policy’s wording, or ask a Moore-McLean Insurance Group representative for a thorough review of your insurance needs.  We’re here to help.

And remember, our 24/7 quoting tool is available online for quotes at your fingertips.  Compare our coverage and pricing to what you’re currently paying, and give us a call.

Need coverage for your RV or trailer? Check us out.

Monday, July 4th, 2011
Recreational Vehicles (RVs) come in many forms – travel trailer, camper, mobile home, campervan – and are subject to a variety of different regulations, laws and insurance requirements depending on design, use and where it is located.  For example, if located in Ontario and used in connection with an automobile, the travel trailer may be covered under the auto policy for Third Party Liability, Accident benefits, Uninsured Automobile and, under certain conditions, Direct Compensation Property Damage (DCPD), providing the trailer does not exceed a certain weight, is not designed to carry passengers or for living in, or for commercial purposes.  Collision and/or Comprehensive and DCPD require the trailer to be described on the policy at additional cost. If the RV is drive-able on its own, then the appropriate insurance must be obtained via your auto insurance provider. For a quote for RV insurance, click here.  A quote is just a click away.
